SHILLONG: The state government will resume the construction of the long-pending Iawmusiang Shopping complex in Jowai.
Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, on Tuesday, held a meeting with PWD (Buildings), in the presence of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) CEM and local MLA, to deliberate on the project.
While informing that the project was sanctioned under Non-Lapsable Pool of Central Resources, Sangma said different issues including change in drawing and DPR ultimately created confusion with the ministry of DoNER. However, he said that the state government is going to pursue the matter with the Union government to get funds for the project, adding that it will start the project now and at the same time follow it up with the Centre.
“We will give the funds for the process to initiate and also discuss the matter with the Union government,” the chief minister said. “Our vision is to ensure that this project is completed and the finance department has agreed to give the funds”.
Conrad also informed that around Rs 12-14 crore is required to complete the project and the state government intends to sanction some funds in April this year after getting a report from the PWD.
The total cost of the project was Rs 18-19 crore, out of which, the Union government has released Rs 6-7 crore and around Rs 12 crore is yet to be sanctioned.
