Health officer against spreading misinformation on coronavirus

JOWAI: The District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), West Jaintia Hills (WJH) District, has urged all citizens to refrain themselves from sharing any unverified or false information about novel coronavirus (nCoV) as it would create fear psychosis among the public.
“It has come to the notice of my office that the official letter which was addressed to the District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills has been widely spread on social media and also published in few newspapers in recent days, thereby causing unnecessary and undue fear and panic among the people of both East and West Jaintia Hills District. Therefore, I urge all citizen to refrain from sharing any fake information on social media”, Lakiang said.
“The intention of the official letter was only to alert the office of the DMHO, EJH, Khliehriat, to take precautionary measures and to follow up on those persons who have arrived in the district from China,” she added.
Lakiang also informed that all persons, who recently arrived from China, have been screened at screening counters that have been set up at Umroi Airport and Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport, Guwahati, and only after passing the screening test, they were allowed to proceed to their destinations.
The DMHO further informed that at present, there is no case of virus reported in the district.
