SHILLONG: The MeECL joint action committee has sought an audience with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to discuss about the pending terminal and pension benefits to be paid to the former employees.
The committee wants the release of terminal benefits as assured by the government through the memorandum of understanding executed on January 1, 2010.
The promise made by the government for the former employees was before the corporatisation of then MeSEB. The government will have to release Rs 500 crore as pending terminal benefits for the staff whose services were terminated or due to downsizing of staff.
