MLAs blamed for JNV project delay
TURA: The District Youth Congress (DYC) from North Garo Hills (NGH) has slammed Resubelpara MLA, Timothy D Shira, and his counterpart from Bajengdoba, Pongseng Marak, for trying to shift the location of the proposed Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) to their respective places of preferences. “On January 29 this year, Pongseng Marak had conducted site inspection at Raksam Somagre in his constituency while on February 1, Timothy D Shira had gone to the proposed site at Raja A’pal for inspection. We would like to question where it is going to be housed. Are you thinking the people of Resubelpara and Bajengdoba to be fools,” the DYC said. Pointing out that construction tenders have already been floated for JNVs in different parts of the state, the DYC said conflict of interests and personal political vendetta of the two MLAs are delaying the project initiation.

The FIR was filed on behalf of the general public by one Samarson M Marak at Kharkutta police station in North Garo Hills, after a public meeting was held at Aruak Ildek A’kong Bazar to discuss the issue. In the FIR, Marak stated that as the state government had passed an amendment declaring broomstick as an agricultural or agro-forestry product, the forest department cannot collect any amount of transit pass. “The government passed a proposal on January 12 this year that it would waive export duties on forest products like broomstick, bamboo, bay leaf, firewood and minor minerals. Informing this in a press conference, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had said that no revenue can be collected from these products,” Marak added.
