‘Cabinet on the Move’ playing to the gallery: Mukul

SHILLONG: A day after the Cabinet met in Jowai as part of its ‘Cabinet on the Move’ idea, Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma, said that there are different mechanisms available with the state government to know about the issues of the districts, blocks and the villages.
“Government embarks upon development initiatives based on these inputs where they have all the data and even different departments have their own statistics,” he said.
Sangma said that such decisions to hold cabinet meetings in different district headquarters is about adopting a strategy which is considered practical and result-oriented and another fact is playing to the gallery and it can be rhetoric on image-building.
He said that different people have different approaches to respond to the call of duty which suits their purpose and they chose it that way.
The government has decided to continue its ‘Cabinet on the Move’ programme initiated in June last in Tura. The second ‘Cabinet on the Move’ was held in Jowai on Tuesday.
The government believes that the objective will ensure that administration is taken closer to the people and it will also enable the government machinery as a whole to look at issues of specific regions.
