TURA: A herd of wild pachyderms passing through villages in search of food in North Garo Hills have reportedly damaged homes early Monday morning.
The small herd which was passing through Wakso Asim village in Bajengdoba development block region ransacked the home of Dipu Sangma in search of food at around 2 am. There were no injuries as the family was holed up in another corner of their home.
The herd later moved on towards Mendal village area and entered the nearby forests in the nearby hills.
This being the lean dry season wherein food is scarce in the forests, elephants from neighbouring Assam as well as Garo Hills move towards human habitats in the hope of getting food particularly crops under harvest in the open fields.
