EJH DC issues guidelines for welfare of PwDs

Shillong: The central government has developed detailed guidelines for providing financial assistance to the welfare of persons with disabilities (PwDs) under the National Funds for Persons with Disabilities constituted in terms of Section 86 of ‘The Rights of Person with Disabilities Act, 2016’.
This was informed by the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Federick M Dopth on Tuesday.
The activities for which funds will be provided include exhibition/workshop to showcase the product including paintings, handicrafts, etc., made by the PwDs.
Any government organisation or an organisation registered under Societies Act/Companies Act/Trust Act for a period not less than three years and has experience of not less than two years for organising exhibition/workshops in marketing products/paintings can apply for the scheme.
Assistance will also be provided to support persons with benchmark disabilities, who have excelled in sports/fine arts/music/dance/film/theatre/literature at the state-level to participate in the national/international events. Assistance from the fund for the same event can be granted only once to a PwD.
The individuals with benchmark disability (having disability 40 per cent or more), who have won medals in sporting events or any artist with disability graded as outstanding or promising as per the instructions of Ministry of Culture during the last three years, are eligible for the scheme.
