Meghalaya Drivers’ Day in Nongstoin

NONGSTOIN: The Nongstoin Regional Local Taxi Owner & Driver Association (NRLTODA) observed the 4th Meghalaya Drivers’ Day at the New Nongstoin Town playground on Wednesday where Jirang MLA SS Sohtun was the chief guest and CP Mawkon, BDO of Nongstoin C&RD Block, was the guest of honour.
The association awarded two of the oldest drivers, namely, Blassing Marngar and Nonboss Lyngdoh besides Homlingstar Pariong and Eben Marngar for their honesty and discipline.
In his address, the Jirang MLA told the drivers to ensure safe journey of passengers and discharge duties ethically. While urging the drivers to follow traffic rules and avoid hasty driving, the MLA said, “A driver’s job is very tough and it cannot be disregarded”.
He lauded the drivers for their services and also appealed to the masses to complement the drivers who play an important role in our daily chores.
The programme was also attended by various organisations from Ri Bhoi, Jaintia and EKH, among others.
The association also announced that the 5th Drivers’ Day will be observed in Sohra in 2021.
