GUWAHATI: The Assam University Teachers’ Association (AUTA) has expressed grave concern at disruption of normal academic affairs in Assam University, Silchar, since the past eight days in the wake of an agitation launched by the students of the institution.

The students are also staging a hunger strike over the two-year rustication and FIR against a research scholar who had allegedly manhandled the Vice Chancellor of the university.

The teachers’ association also expressed concern over the deteriorating health condition of certain students who are on hunger strike since February 12, 2020.

The general body meeting of AUTA held on Monday unanimously resolved to urge upon the university authority to ensure end of the stalemate and restore normalcy and healthy academic atmosphere in the campus at the earliest by upholding the interests of all the stakeholders of the university.

“AUTA is in touch with Assam University Students’ Union (AUSU) as well as the university administration from the beginning and has been making all efforts to facilitate dialogue and resolve the present impasse,” a statement issued on Monday said.
