Training for Civil Services exams
Shillong: The Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills (EJH) District, Khliehriat has informed that a free training and counselling for the Integrated Course on Civil Service Examinations will be held at Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat, EJH. A statement issued on Tuesday said that the training programme will be sponsored by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, EJH, under the Chief Minister’s Career Guidance Scheme. “The duration of the course is for two months, which will commence in the month of March 2020,” the statement said. Students, who have completed BA, B.Sc, B.Com, B.Tech, etc., or are appearing as final-year students are eligible for admission. The application form can be obtained from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, EJH on or before the March 2 during office hours.
Woman, infant killed in accidents
SHILLONG: A young woman lost her life in the city recently in an accident, a report said. The accident took place in the city last week around 12 am at Polo near Aunty Wine Shop, when one scooty (ML 05 R 2252) ridden by Papu Roy of Lumshyiap Nongmynsong along with a pillion rider Puja Dojee (27) were proceeding towards Ganesh Das hospital. On reaching the place, the pillion rider fell down from the scooty and succumbed to her injury on the spot. Meanwhile, in another road accident, an eight-year-old girl, viz. Rina Begum was killed in Ambari village, West Garo Hills on February 18. Accidents occurring in the newly-constructed AMPT road/NH 127B Rd are frequently reported and several people have lost their lives. Concerned authority was appraised several times to construct rumble strips and speed-breakers in the landmark areas. However, they have not shown seriousness with regard to the demands of the local MLA, NGOs and general public.
Seminar on crime against women
SHILLONG: A two-day national seminar on ‘Crime Against Women in North East India: Its Correlation with Conflict and Natural Calamities’, which is sponsored by National Commission for Women, New Delhi, will be organised by Kakojan College, Jorhat on March 5-6. The main objective of the seminar is to identify the trends and patterns of crime against women in the areas prone to conflict and natural calamities and explore possible ways to addressing multifaceted crimes. The seminar will be inaugurated by renowned academician PK Bhowmick, faculty IIT Kharagpur, and Patricia Mukhim, social activist, writer and Editor of The Shillong Times will be present as the keynote speaker.
Ardent meets traditional heads
SHILLONG: Former MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit, as part of the Iada La ka Ri revolution, held a meeting with the traditional heads of Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Nongthymmai Pyllun. The meeting with the traditional heads is one of the decisions taken at the public meeting held on February 6. Another meeting was held with traditional heads in Mawlai. One more meeting with the traditional heads of Upper Shillong and Jaiaw will be on February 22 and 24.
Dance workshop gets under way
TURA: A two-day dance workshop got under way in Williamnagar to encourage and guide young enthusiastic artistes of Garo Hills and show them a way to prepare for major national and international events. Young dance sensation from Garo Hills, Aryaan K Sangma, who is organising the workshop with support from the East Garo Hills district administration along with Kusimkolgre Youth Club and Shadow Crew, is conducting the training at Williamnagar DRDA hall, which commenced on Tuesday. “Participants will get an opportunity to learn new steps on hip-hop and urban moves,” informed Aryaan.
