TURA: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh on Wednesday gave a clarion call to the officers of the district to adopt schools which are in dire need of help in terms of infrastructure developments.
The DC, who was chairing a meeting of all the stake holders under Project Star at DRDA hall in Tura, said that there are many schools in rural areas which are deprived of basic infrastructures like proper toilets and drinking water let alone a decent classroom and science laboratories.
The Project Star (School Transformation by Augmenting Resources), which started two years ago by the Education department without much funds at its disposal, aims at transforming and improving the school-level education status in the state by augmenting and pooling the crunch resources, with some successes to its credits.
He said that even small gestures of help like providing books, CI sheets (tin roofs), black boards and science kits would go a long way in bringing about a qualitative and quantitative change in the overall educational scenario of the district.
The deputy commissioner also urged the officers to regularly visit some schools in villages and conduct various inspirational, motivational programmes by way of organising career guidance sessions and similar informative awareness programmes, which he hoped will lift the spirits and morale of both the teachers and students and ignite the spark in them to teach with greater zeal and to learn with stronger passion.
