Police still looking for clues
SHILLONG: Shillong Police is yet to trace the miscreants who are out to attack the residents of the city.
Several cases of assault on unarmed people in the city continue unabated with no let up in such attacks even as police finds it difficult to get specific information about these stray assault cases.
After the assault on Assam resident Pranjal Nath and few others in Jaiaw last week, two more persons were assaulted on Saturday last, a delayed police report said.
Kutub Ali lodged a complaint that on February 22 around 10.30 am, as many as 10-12 unidentified boys assaulted him and Faizur Rahman at Lawmali near 108, Shillong.
The assault took place while they were on their way to Jaiaw for welding work.
The victims were shifted to Nazareth Hospital.
A police official while speaking to The Shillong Times said) that they have taken note of such assaults on people recently and the department is enhancing its security in as many areas as possible.
Informing that the police have registered cases and the assault cases are being investigated, the officials said that it is difficult for them to get to the bottom of incidents like these.
“We are sending our boys to different areas in uniform and even in plain clothes to keep a check on the activities,” the official said.
It is evident that the security deployment in the city has gone up with police personnel manning different areas of the city and police patrolling have also been intensified.
The city has witnessed scores of assault cases on unarmed people by miscreants ever since the state witnessed protest against the implementation of CAA and the delay in implementing Inner Liner Permit while the police lament that in sporadic cases like these, they hardly get clues about the assaulters.
Recently, a woman from Assam had lodged a complaint with Union Home Minister Amit Shah against the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) alleging that it had infringed upon the fundamental rights of Indian citizens by “manhandling” them on the pretext of checking Inner Line Permit (ILP) from February 12.
