SHILLONG: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has alleged that the Union government is trying to distort the history and legacy of the nation.
Talking to media persons on Tuesday, Mukul said that the narrative which is being generated revolving around Citizenship (Amendment) Act is contrary to the legacy of the nation.
He said that the Union Home Minister is justifying CAA by saying that the nation was divided during the time of independence on religious lines which is completely distorted interpretation of the history of the nation and its legacy.
He said that post independence, people came together and became a part of India after agreeing on certain principles and understanding and it was Pakistan which wanted their nation to be on religious lines and not India.
“Their effort of distorting history and legacy of the nation is with pre-determined intent which has been rejected and opposed tooth and nail by the people of the country,” he said.
When asked on the growing demand for ILP in the state, he said that it is necessary for the state government to prevail upon the Centre to agree to the proposal of the state and ILP is the need of the hour due to the fallout of the CAA.
