New Delhi: Tura MP Agatha Sangma on Wednesday urged the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to approve immediate  upgradation of two lane Pikan – Tura-Dalu, NH-51 into four-lane National Highway.
In a letter to the Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari, Agatha said  that her Constituency’s arterial connectivity is NH-51, which is connecting Tura and its hinterland with the rest of the country. The road was brought under the National Highway Authority of India way back in 1983.
Since then many associated work with the highway was undertaken and completed.
However with the passage of time, the demand and requirement of better and bigger road connectivity grew as the volume of traffic movement increased, she said.
Agatha also stated that the Government of India also foresees connecting this part of the region with other international destinations of Bhutan, Bangladesh, Thailand and East Asian countries for certain Economics under Act East Policy). This has farther accentuated the demands for wider and better road connectivity, she added.
She also praised the minister for massive road work undertaken in the North East in recent times. She hopes that the Tura highway will also receive urgent attention.
