SHILLONG: The state government is soon going to float an Expression of Interest (EOI) to start the much delayed cancer wing constructed in Shillong Civil Hospital premises.
The statement came from Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek after conducting an inspection of the Cancer wing.
“We have discussed on how to make the wing operational at the earliest for the benefit of the people,” Hek said. The government is also exploring the idea of having a public-private partnership to make it operational. The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) had projected over Rs 26 crore for the project and initially Rs 10 crore was released for the construction of the building.
The cancer wing is the need of the hour in the state in view of high cases of cancer in Meghalaya and in the North East region.
Apart from the cancer wing, Hek also inspected the Orthopaedic, Oncology and Trauma centre of the hospital along with the heads of the departments.
