Headmen’s body denounces cases of assault in city

SHILLONG: Taking cognisance of the recent cases of assault in different parts of the state capital, Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH), a conglomerate of over three thousand Dorbars from Khasi and Jaintia Hills, on Wednesday said that no Rangbah Shnongs wants to see such incidents as it brings a bad name to the locality and society.
Talking to media persons here on Wednesday, general secretary of SNSBH, RL Blah said that the Rangbah Shnongs are the heads of their respective localities and none wants to see such incidents.
He said that most of the cases of assault happen at night and these are not brought to the notice of the Rangbah Shnongs by which time police usually intervene.
“We are working in tandem with police as we cannot take law into our hands, but as Rangbah Shnongs, it is our duty to look into the welfare and security of the people in our respective localities,” he said.
Stating that he himself comes from a cosmopolitan society, he added that people never fight over these issues though stray incidents do took place.
“We are trying our best and we are keeping a watch on all these issues to bring peace, harmony and prosperity in our respective localities.”
Shillong in the last one week has seen multiple cases of assault on people be it in Jaiaw, Lawmali or even in 101 Area.
Despite the cases of assault on unarmed people in the city, police are finding it difficult to get specific information about these incidents.
