Hek lays foundation stone for hospital in Umtrew

NONGPOH: Health & Family Welfare Minister AL Hek on Friday laid the foundation stone for a 50-bed Ayush Hospital & Wellness Centre at Umtrew village in Ri Bhoi District.
The centre was sanctioned for an amount of Rs 12 crore through the Ministry of Ayush under the National Ayush Mission.
Speaking at the programme, Dr DK Raswai, Homoeopathic Physician-cum-State Nodal Officer of Ayush, informed that the objective of the hospital is to integrate traditional healing by using alternative medicinal herbs with ayurveda, yoga, naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and homoeopathy and thus revive and promote the traditional methods of healing in the state.
The health minister lauded and appreciated the efforts taken of the officials of Ayush which led the Ministry of Ayush under the National Ayush Mission to allot funds for setting up Ayush Hospital & Wellness Centres at Sohra and Umtrew. He said the state government wants to develop and promote health facilities in the state.
He said the centre will promote traditional practitioners in the district and of the state by engaging them in a more organised way so that the traditional knowledge linked with healing can be promoted by integrating with the scientific methods.
He also mentioned various health schemes like MHIS implemented by the government and appealed to the people to avail these.
He sought the continuous support of the people to complete the construction in time and also for further developments.
The programme was also attended by the local legislator of Umsning, Jason Sawkmie Mawlong, Umsning MDC, Macdalyne Sawkmie Mawlong, Dr A War, Director of Health Services (MI) & I/C Director of Ayush, Dr M Mawrie, DM&HO, Dr H Lanong, Homoeopathic Physician-cum-District Nodal Officer, Ayush and others.
