Tura to kick-start International Women’s Day event on Friday
SHILLONG: A three-day ‘4th All Garo Hills International Women’s Day-cum-exhibition and sale of women Self-Help Group (SHG) Products’ will be held at PA Sangma Stadium in Tura starting Friday. Local MLA and Advisor to the Chief Minister, Thomas A Sangma, will be the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony of the International Women’s Day programme, which will be held on the theme ‘I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights’. He will also inaugurate the stalls for various SHGs and SHG federations on the same day. The programme, which will culminate on Sunday, is being organised in Garo Hills region for the fourth time by BAKDIL, an NGO, in collaboration with NABARD, MSRLS and District Social Welfare Department. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is also set to attend the programme as the chief guest on the second day. Around 5,000 people from the region will take part in the event, while women from several SHGs and SHG federations will sell and exhibit their products.

Registration date extended
SHILLONG: The additional deputy commissioner, East Jaintia Hills (EJH), Khliehriat, has informed that the last date of registration for the two-month free training and counseling for the Integrated Course on Civil Service Examinations at Jaintia Eastern College has been extended from the March 2 to March 6. Interested students can obtain application form and register themselves by providing copies of final mark sheets at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, EJH, Khliehriat, on or before March 6.

Youth body formed 
TURA: A new youth body under the banner of the A’chik Youth Movement for Betterment of the Society (AYMBS) was recently formed at Phulbari in West Garo Hills. The new body elected Peter A Sangma as president, Salgrak R Marak as vice president, Nikseng A Sangma as general secretary, among other office-bearers.
