SHILLONG: The Leader of Opposition and former chef minister of Meghalaya, Dr Mukul Sangma has written to Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma for holding of an all-party meeting to come out with a collective solution to end the current impasse prevailing in the state
“I have written to the Chief Minister on the need to convene an all-party meeting,” Dr Sangma told reporters here on Thursday after holding discussions with hoteliers and tour operators of the city in view of the fact that tourism in the state has been badly hit due to the ongoing law and order situation in the state for quite some time now.
Lamenting that the hospitality sector has been badly affected in the state in view of the law and order problem, the Congress party was informed by the hoteliers that all the bookings in the hotel have been cancelled by tourists.
“There is a negative narrative of the State of Meghalaya at present. To recover from this negative impact on the hospitality sector, it will take some time,” Dr Sangma said
He suggested that there was a need to explore on the ways and means how everyone can collectively engage and somehow reversing about the negative perception about the state.
“We need to generate all the positive stories about the State to connect with the rest of the world,” he said.
The meeting with hoteliers assumes significance as the tourism sector in the state has taken a beating following the continuous law and order problems in the state since December last year and now the situation is such that most of the hotels in the state are almost empty as tourists are now not coming to the state.
