SHILLONG: The Transport department is waiting for the state government’s approval to open the financial bid of the firms to operate the Shillong-Delhi flight service. A state government official said that the approval may come within this week.
It may be mentioned that the government had last month floated tender for the Umroi-Delhi flight targeting work to begin by March this year.
Apart from Zoom Air, few very less-known companies had shown interest to operate on the route.
The state government had agreed in principle to provide viability gap funding (VGF) to the airline in order to provide direct air connectivity for Delhi-Shillong and vice versa sectors.
The Shillong airport is currently connected by Kolkata as Indigo operates on the route daily, but now there are demands that a Shillong-Delhi flight should be operated from the land-locked state where air passengers still have to depend on Guwahati airport.
