SHILLONG: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum, in a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, suggested that the security officials should be extra vigilant and strict while screening people for COVID-19.
While stressing on mandatory 14-day quarantine for people arriving from outside the state, Nongrum, in the letter, said that some students coming back from London to Hyderabad recently took paracetamol to lower their temperature in order to escape checks at the airport.
Stating that this might also happen in Meghalaya, the MLA said that people can resort to any heights in order to dodge isolation.
Further, citing the case of Italy, where people took chances by moving out of their homes wandering around places, he said it is not good enough for people to isolate themselves in their own homes.
“There should be a condition for all those who return home. They should be isolated, and therefore, a spacious place for them to be quarantined is required immediately,” Nongrum added.
The MLA said that the government should react promptly, especially now that there is one confirmed positive case in the North East (Manipur).
Nongrum also said that medical accessories, protective equipment, preventive/non-intrusive medical devices are needed in large numbers in case of any emergency.
