Call to check sale of items at high rates

SHILLONG: Sohra Labour Union has informed that unscrupulous persons have been selling essential commodities at high rates by-passing the order of the state government.
In a statement issued here, the union has urged the shopkeepers to keep a notice of the prices in front of their shops and to issue receipts as well.
The union has asked the state government to allot official to check such activities in the shops.
The labour union also thanked the state government for approving to pay Rs 1,000 per worker per week for labourers who have registered with the Labour Commissioner.
However, it has asked the government to also make some arrangement for ladies who sell kwai (areca nut) and other small shops and quarry workers.
