People in Shallang set example by keeping distance

NONGSTOIN: The Nongstoin Police on Wednesday resorted to lathi charge and minor punishment against several violators in Nongstoin town.
Many in New Nongstoin, Siejlieh, Mawiaban and Upper New Nongstoin were out on the roads on Wednesday, violating prohibitory orders in view to prevent the possible spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Some shops and business establishments were also opened which were later shut down by Nongstoin Police.
It may be mentioned that the fair price, wholesaler and retailer shops selling essential items and medicines will be open from March 25 till 28.
However, movement of individuals expect those involved in emergency duties is strictly prohibited during the period and the government has requested people to stay indoors.
Police officials informed that lathi charge is for the violators who refuse to cooperate with the orders.
“Some people have been moving due to emergency cases, but we have identified that most of the residents in Nongstoin were only loitering. We will do anything to enforce all prohibitory orders for the safety of the people,” they said.
The police also warned against spreading fake news in Nongstoin.
Social distancing
The people of Shallang in West Khasi Hills have given a true example when it comes to social distancing as they stood in queue maintaining one metre of distance from the other person while buying essential commodities.
The Shallang Police played a critical role in ensuring that social distancing is maintained by relentlessly checking and observing the public behaviour.
The Superintendent of Police, West Khasi Hills, BJ Laloo told pressmen here that Nongstoin should follow the example of residents of Shallang.
It may be mentioned that social distancing was also followed at Upper New Nongstoin where the fair price dealers have implemented the same and BPL beneficiaries followed the instructions.
