NONGSTOIN: Photjalei, a remote hamlet in West Khasi Hills, has termed coronavirus as plague. The villagers also denied entry to a youth of the locality who wanted to come back to the hamlet after he was away for some time.
The villagers of Photjalei, 40 km away from district headquarter, believed that a deadly plague has hit the world.
The student of the locality, who came from Bengaluru to the village even before lockdown, had completed many tests in various check points when he entered Meghalaya but it was shocking to know that when the family decided for home quarantine, the villagers wanted to send him away from the village and now he has isolated himself in Nongstoin Civil Hospital.
The Dorbar Shnong of Photjalei has agreed that when he completes 14 days of quarantine in Civil Hospital, he will return home and will be again isolated in a house built by the Dorbar Shnong but the decision was rejected by the villagers.
Kitboklang Sangriang, Secretary Shnong of Photjalei, said that during the meeting of the Dorbar Shnong held on March 25, the village elders had tried to make them understand but failed since the people of Photjalei refused and alleged that plague should not be brought to the village.
The Secretary Shnong also said that the village authority has informed the Health department and the District Administration and as per the instruction, he has been tested before entering the state but he was denied entry by the people of his home town.
Concerns have been raised as to what will happen after he completes the14 days of isolation in Civil Hospital.
