TURA: Police have confirmed that rape was the motive for the murder of an eight-year-old girl at Nongalbibra in South Garo Hills on Friday.
The body of the minor girl was found on Friday by locals who immediately alerted the police. After preliminary investigations, police were also able to detain a suspect and after questioning they placed him under arrest the same night.
A reliable police source on Sunday informed that further investigation was on into the case.
“We have been able to confirm that rape was the motive for the murder. A suspect has also been arrested and investigation is continuing,” the police source said.
When asked for further details of the crime, the official said that he was unable to do so as he was not among those who visited the site of the crime.
Meanwhile, efforts were made to contact the district’s Superintendent of Police (SP) but repeated calls to his personal number were left unattended.
