Case against curfew violators
SHILLONG: Police have registered a case against two individuals for violating the order issued by the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills. Police said that on March 26, at about 9:35 am, driver of truck (UP-21AN-5215) Mujahid Hussain and owner of Nitra Showroom, Ankur Chokani, were found violating the curfew promulgated in EKH district by engaging ten labourers for unloading non-essential commodities from the above-mentioned truck at Keating Road, Tri-Junction, Shillong.

Direction on curfew passes
SHILLONG: The chief secretary to the state government has informed that Harish C Chaudhary, Additional PCCF (Wildlife) and the Chief Wildlife Warden, has been authorised to issue curfew and vehicle passes to officials and staff of the Forest and Environment Department. In another order, B Mawrie, Registrar General, High Court of Meghalaya, has been authorised to issue curfew and vehicle passes to officials and staff of the High Court of Meghalaya.

Officers assigned duties in EJH
Khliehriat: The Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills District has assigned duties to various officers of the district, so as to ensure strict compliance of social distancing and proper monitoring of sellers and buyers in identified locations. The officers will also be assisted by two subordinate officers. Executive Engineer J Tariang has been assigned to monitor the situation at Rymbai Road, Executive Engineer WR Lyngskor at Kongong, District Agriculture Officer RK Blah and District Horticulture Office WC Pariat at Lad Rymbai Bypass, Assistant Engineer D Lathong and District Sports Officer O Mawthoh at Playground, Dkhiah East, Sub-Divisional Officer B Nongtdu at Semasi, District Soil Conservation Officer E Laloo at Umkiang Parking Lot, and District Animal & Husbandry Officer Dr Sumer at Umpleng (Cement).

MPYC appeal for help
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has urged the people of the state to lend a helping hand to the needy at the time of crisis in the midst of the ongoing lockdown in view of coronavirus pandemic. In a statement, MPYC General Secretary, Fernandez S Dkhar, said that the MPYC teams are available in each and every district and C&RD Block of the state if people are willing to donate edible items, such as rice and vegetables, to the needy. “People in the villages, who are daily wage earners in plantation farming and cultivation, are asking for edible items such as rice instead of money as their wages,” he added. Relief camps for migrants
Shillong: The chief secretary to the state government has informed that Bhupesh Hajong, Joint Secretary to the state government, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, shall function as the Nodal Officer for monitoring and coordinating with all deputy commissioners on the relief camps set up for migrant labourers. The order was issued in line on Monday with instructions given to all deputy commissioners on additional measures to mitigate the economic hardship of migrant workers.

WGH NGO helps needy
SHILLONG: United Social Development and Research Foundation (USDRF), a West Garo Hills-based NGO, distributed food packets to homeless peoples, beggars and mentally challenged people who have been affected by the ongoing lockdown in view of coronavirus pandemic. The NGO has also installed three wash basins near ATM, police station, etc. The members of the NGO have also been working in tandem with police to spread awareness among people about coronavirus pandemic.

TUR for aid to health workers
SHILLONG: The Thma U Rangli-Juki (TUR) has urged the state government to help health workers and procure various Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs). ‘‘Thma U Rangli-Juki (TUR) appeals to the state government to appropriate all MLA and MDC Local Area Development Funds meant for this year as well as all the funds unspent till date and put it in a state-level fund to help health workers and revamp public health facilities by procuring PPEs such as ventilators, masks, etc,” a statement said.

Items yet to reach Ranikor: Body
SHILLONG: The All Khasi Hills A’chik Federation (AKHAF) has said essential items are yet to reach the people residing in the border areas of Ranikor. In a statement issued here, the body said the authorities concerned are to make necessary arrangements for transportation, supply and distribution of essential commodities via PDS, grocery shops, etc., as the people of the border area are yet to see the light of day as the essential commodities have not arrived and distributed amongst the needy and beneficiary. “If the authority fails to take stock of the situation immediately, the very idea of lockdown will be defeated as people will be out in the streets and in the open searching for food for survival,” the AKHAF statement said.
