SHILLONG: UDP general secretary and former MLA, Jemino Mawthoh, has written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on some suggestions with regard in the wake of coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the country.
In the letter to Sangma, Mawthoh said stricter surveillance should be carried out at all the entry points and key points along the borders of the state to ensure effective isolation for the entire state.
He said that intensive checking and thorough screening of incoming travellers have to be taken as top priority taking in account the gravity of the situation.
He added that to ease the burden of the District Administration, there is a need to strengthen the effective coordination mechanism by constituting Emergency Operation Centres in the respective districts comprising of competent and technical people that may be drawn from government as well as non-government sector with involvement of important stakeholders, who will monitor and guide the day-to-day activities at the ground level.
Mawthoh said that there is a need to review the supply chain right from the wholesalers to the retailers right down to the community level so as to ensure that no one is left out from availing the essential provisions, especially the marginalised section of the society.
He added that a price list of all essential items be regulated and be made public.
Mawthoh stated that there should be sharing of inputs by all political parties and important stakeholders on the nature and conduct of lockdown to solicit views, opinions and to structure better coordination at different levels.
