Shillong: Amidst the transmission of COVID-19, it is observed that there is a need to spread awareness amongst the public about the cause, manner of transmission and the preventive measures.
At present the para legal volunteers of West Jaintia Hills district have volunteered as health volunteers and are also assisting the public in getting various welfare schemes that is launched to help the needy.
In this regard, the District Legal Services Authority, West Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with West Jaintia Hills District Executive Force, has asserted that they would like to assist the police personnel, health volunteers, para legal volunteers and the needy by forming a Mobile Legal Aid Clinic comprising of a volunteer counsellor, health supervisors and para legal volunteers.
A statement from West Jaintia Hills SP, Lakador Syiem said that DLSA have received reports from para legal volunteers that there is a need to spread awareness through distribution of pamphlets and posters. They have also expressed the psychological strain that people are facing due to various factors. The team will visit places and distribute posters and provide counselling to those in need taking into consideration the psychological stress undergone by the volunteers during this time.The Mobile Legal Aid Clinic team consists of para legal volunteers namely Donbok Rani, Rimius Sten, health supervisors- Renibeth Patlong, Lambha Patlong and Super Mon H Pasweth, Mayfereen Ryntathiang as volunteer counsellor.
