“We have transferred Rs 1000 each for the first week to the respective bank accounts of 10,000 plus labourers so far. Not only this, some of the labourers has also received other entitlements like medical and education reimbursements,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who also looks after the Labour department, said on Thursday.
Informing that around 27,000 labourers are registered with the government, Tynsong said that those who have not received the monetary benefit have to submit necessary documents.
“The office of the Labour Commissioner will process the case of the other labourers as and when it receives their documents. This is an ongoing process,” he added.
Opening of bank accounts
Meanwhile, the Labour Commissioner has requested headmen, leaders of traditional institutions, labour unions, workers union and NGOs to assist daily wage earners in opening bank accounts so that they may be able to avail the monetary remuneration being provided by the government.
Eviction of domestic workers
The Labour Commissioner has taken note of the fact that some domestic workers were being evicted by their respective employers and have been left without shelter or food.
The official has issued a notice to all employers asking them to refrain from eviction of domestic workers during the lockdown period and warned of penal action as per law against violators.
