State moves Railways for parcel train

SHILLONG: The state government on Friday apprised the Executive Director, Freight Marketing Railway Board, that a parcel train can start to Mendipathar, the only railway station in the state, to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities
The Chief Secretary, M S Rao, in a letter to the Railway Board has informed that in view of the current emergent situation arising out of the outbreak of COVID-19, the state government is of the view that a parcel train to Mendipathar is necessary to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the people of the state.
The chief secretary requested the Executive Director, Freight Marketing Railway Board to consider starting a parcel train to Mendipathar immediately.
On receipt of confirmation from the Railway Board, he informed that a detailed proposal on requirement of various essential commodities will be put forward by the state government, the letter said.
