SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills Wine Dealers and Welfare Association on Friday urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to permit opening of wine shops on allocated days with other essentials commodities.
Maintaining that consumption of alcohol in moderation has been a way of life for the people here, the association in the letter to the chief minister said that the sudden closure of wine shops from March 25 has created immense public demand for their quota of alcohol. And wine shop owners are facing public pressure, it added.
The association wants the government to allow them to open wine shops on allocated days with other essential commodities by adhering to the social distancing and public hygiene.
