NONGSTOIN: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), West Khasi Hills (WKH) District Unit, on Monday slammed the state government for being unable to fix the rate of food and essential commodities in the market, which has gotten the public in dilemma over the timely increase of prices, causing problems to the economically weaker section of the people.
The HYC said this during the rice distribution to 48 households from three villages under Nongstoiñ.
The initiative was taken up by the HYC to help the underprivileged that have been facing hurdles to support families in the wake of the lockdown in the state.
“As an organisation, we can’t just keep quiet and see that our people are living without food during this lockdown. So, as responsible citizens, we have decided to show our helping hand and contribute from our own pocket to help those poor and needy families that need urgent help,” HYC District Unit president Lumlang Kharsyiemlieh said.
“We are not able to afford to help more but as mark of cooperation with the needy, we have distributed 10 kg of rice to each household and the distribution will continue to other villages as well from now onwards,” he added.
It is to be mentioned that the MLA and MDC of Rambrai Jyrngam Constituency, Kimfa Sydney Marbaniang and Bajop Pyngrope have been distributing essential commodities to the people of constituency.
