Balrampur (Uttar Pradesh): A video showing a Uttar Pradesh BJP leader Manju Tiwari firing in the air with a revolver on Sunday night to mark the battle against corona, has gone viral on the social media. A probe has been ordered in the matter. The District Superintendent of Police, Dev Ranjan Varma, has registered a case against Tiwari, the district president of the party’s women wing, at the kotwali nagar police station. BJP has also initiated action against Tiwari and removed her from the post. After the video went viral, Tiwari posted another video apologizing for her act. In the video, she is seen apologizing and admitting that it was a ‘big mistake’. At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed to the nation to light a candle or a ‘diya’ on the doorstep on Sunday at 9 pm for 9 minutes, the BJP leader chose to mark the occasion by firing in the air. Woman cop defers marriage to attend to her duties
Rishikesh (U’khd): Preferring her duty over personal considerations in the war against coronavirus, a woman police officer here put off her marriage to be able to look after migrant workers at a relief camp. Shahida Parveen, a sub-inspector posted at Muni Ki Reti police station here, is currently deployed at a relief camp meant for migrant workers. She was to get married on April 5. However, the call of duty prompted the officer to defer her marriage so that she could take care of the migrant workers at the relief camp where she is posted. “At a time when the entire country is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, we also have certain duties to fulfill. So, I decided to defer my marriage scheduled for April 5 to be available for people who need my services,” Parveen said. She said her prospective husband was completely in agreement with the decision, adding they will get married after things return to normalcy. Praising her for her decision, DG Law and Order Ashok Kumar said Uttarakhand police was proud of Parveen for whom duty comes first. (PTI)
Kerala HC allows cat owner to go out to buy food for pets
Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday allowed a cat owner’s plea seeking to permit him to go out in his car to buy food for his pets amid the lockdown to prevent spread of novel coronavirus. Considering the plea filed by Prakash, who owns three pet cats, a Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justices A K Jayasankaran Nambiar and Shaji P Chaly observed that animal food and fodder were covered under essential items. Allowing the plea, the court directed that the petitioner could go out to buy the food for his pets on the basis of a self-declaration, along with the order of the court. In his plea, the cat owner had alleged that the police did not grant him vehicle pass for buying cat food after its stock got exhausted. He had submitted the application for vehicle pass online on April 4. The court asked whether the cat will not eat other food, the petitioner, a vegetarian, submitted that the cats were fed biscuits and seven kg was required to feed them for three weeks. (PTI)
Man gets cough, cold; commits suicide
Banda (UP): A 35-year-old man, suffering from cough and cold, committed suicide by hanging himself in Jamalpur village in Banda district of Uttar Pradesh. The police suspect that he ended his life because of the fear of coronavirus. According to the brother-in-law of the deceased, Rajendra, the latter had isolated himself in a room after some villagers suspected that he was suffering from Corona virus. “Maybe, he committed suicide due to this. The matter is being probed,” a police official said. Chief medical officer, Santosh Kumar, said the man had not visited any government hospital for treatment. Rajendra had been working as a mason in Delhi. He was reportedly suffering from cough, cold and fever ever since he returned from the national capital in mid-March. (IANS)
