Tura returnee defies advisory, misbehaves with health officials

SHILLONG: With the reports of incessant cases of ill-treatment meted out to health officials across the country in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, the state has now reported a similar incident from the Garo Hills region.
According to Police, the Medical and Health Officer of Mahendraganj CHC in South West Garo Hills had registered an FIR after a Tura returnee had misbehaved with the health officials when asked to undergo the quarantine period.
“Dr. Noor Ain Khan, M&HO, in-charge, Mahendraganj CHC, lodged a complaint that on April 2 around 11 am, a woman (name not mentioned) recently coming from Tura (WGH), misbehaved with the complainant and his staff, when she was advised to undergo compulsory 15-day quarantine at her residence, as per COVID-19 protocol,” the Police report said.
Curfew violations
Meanwhile, another police report said that on April 4 around 7:30 pm, BSF personnel of E-Coy, 30 Bn., BOP Umsyiem (EKH), apprehended three persons, viz. Gopal Das (36), Robert Lamin (18) and a 16-year-old from a place near the international border, for violating curfew imposed by the district administration.
In a similar incident, two persons, viz. Prem Thapa (40) and Suraj Chettri (33) also violated the curfew in the city on April 2. The report also said that the duo was caught red-handed when they were trying to destroy Air Force equipments in a restricted area at HQ, Eastern Air Command (Unit), Air Force, 7th Mile, Upper Shillong.
