NONGPOH: Health Minister AL Hek on Thursday visited Bhoirymbong CHC and Nongpoh Civil Hospital as well as the quarantine centre at CTI, Byrnihat in order to review the preparedness of Ri Bhoi district administration with regard to COVID-19.
A review meeting was also held at Nongpoh Civil Hospital in the presence of local legislator, Mayralborn Syiem, MDC Balajied Rani, Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi RM Kurbah and other officials.
During the meeting, Hek was briefed about the preventive measures taken by the district administration such as setting up of quarantine centre at CTI, Byrnihat and St. Paul’s Hr. Secondary School, Nongpoh as well as isolation wards at Bhoirymbong and Civil Hospital, Nongpoh, Corona Care Centres at SIRD, Umiam and St. Paul’s Secondary School, Nongpoh, with capacity of up to 35 and 70 patients respectively.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Hek, while asserting that Ri Bhoi is prepared in case of any outbreak of COVID-19, said that all possible preventive steps and measures have been taken and the people should not panic.
The health minister, while lauding the efforts of the frontline workers, urged upon the doctors, nurses and others to continue their selfless effort in dealing with any situation arising out of the contagion.
An official of the Health department also informed that Nongpoh Civil Hospital can house COVID patients if cases come up in the district. PPE, masks, gloves, sanitisers are made available to fight the virus.
The deputy commissioner, while lauding village leaders and people at large for their cooperation during the lockdown, informed that the district administration has identified more establishment to be turned into quarantine centres.
Meanwhile, local MLA Mayralborn Syiem, stressed on a holistic approach to fight the pandemic with regard to following the lockdown and other norms.
