SHILLONG: Meghalaya Police is now also using drones in its bid to maintain social distancing when shops are allowed to open and hundreds of people come out to buy essentials in the city.
Additional Inspector General of Police Administration) GK Iangrai said that they have quite a number of drones, but presently, only one is being used in the city for the purpose.
He said that drones usually help in monitoring overcrowding and social distancing and whenever police notice any overcrowding, they immediately send their personnel to the particular area to take necessary action.
Meanwhile, North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) Director, PLN Raju, said that the state government has discussed about using drones with the centre.
He said that the government would get back to NESAC if it needs to use drones to monitor public movement
He said that through drones, public movement can be tracked if people come out of their homes after the allocated time.
“The government told us that they have purchased drones and they are training people and for technical assistance, they will come back to us,” he said.
Drone photography is the capture of still images and video by a remotely-operated or autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), also known as an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) or, more commonly, drone.
