MAWKYRWAT: Health Minister AL Hek is confident that South West Khasi Hills district is prepared to deal with coronavirus.
The minister along with health officials visited Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills district on Saturday to assess the measures taken up by the district administration to fight against COVID-19 and said that the Health department in the district is prepared to deal with the disease.
“I saw that the preparation is very good especially now that we have got a separate corona care centre at Mini Secretariat, Laitlawsang and if there are positive cases the Health department is prepare to deal with that,” Hek said after inspecting the centre.
Hek also informed that there are 23 beds in the corona care centre which was segregated separately for positive and suspected cases. He also expressed happiness that the district administration has prepared the centre because if the illness reaches the district, the patients will not be mixed up with other patients in the Community Health Centre here.
Hek lauded the district administration, health officials and frontline workers for their untiring work in their preparation to meet any eventuality that might arise out of COVID-19. He hoped that the cooperation of NGO’s, villages and people from different walks of life will help to tackle COVOD-19 besides following the advisories issued by the Health department from time to time.
Regarding the fate of the 100-bed hospital at Mawkyrwat which is lying pending for more than seven years, Hek said that finishing of the building will take some time because all the migrant workers have gone back and because of the COVID-19 situation.
Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton L Tongkhar said that each and everyone has contributed and played a part in preventing COVID-19 from entering the state.
Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo informed that the district is fully prepared to combat COVID-19 where several measures have been taken up by the district administration such as awareness programme, distributing of (Information Education and Communication) IEC materials, issuing advisories from time to time etc in order to educate people on the danger of COVID-19 and the steps to be followed in order to be healthy and to remain coronavirus-free.
