SHILLONG: KHADC MDCs have urged the government to direct dealers to sell fertilisers to farmers to ease their problems.
The MDCs from Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to discuss with him the plight of farmers due to the lockdown. The MDCs also suggested to respective deputy commissioners to identify rural or local markets to open as the closure of Iewduh posed a hurdle to the farmers. MDC Pyniaid Syiem said that rural markets such as Iew Smit, Iew Pomtiah, Iew Sohra or Iew Laitlyngkot and others can remain open.
Meanwhile, the MDCs have donated Rs 5 lakh to the CM’s Relief Fund to combat COVID-19.
CEM Titos Chyne has sent a representation to see that more shops are open. He said that the MDCs have agreed to the decision to extend the lockdown by another two to three weeks.
