SHILLONG: Mawsynram MLA HM Shangpliang has appealed to the government to reconsider its decision and initiate appropriate steps to bring back the stranded citizens of Meghalaya without further delay.
The government may mandate the parents and the 2192 young people to abide by all necessary protocol for the safety of the citizens of the state as well as their own, he said.
The MLA, in a statement on Monday, expressed solidarity with the families whose loved ones are stranded in other states of the country due to the lockdown imposed to prevent spread of the coronavirus disease.
“On behalf of the parents of 2192 stranded students, working professionals and others who have expressed their desire to return home amidst the coronavirus lockdown. I wish to express the pain and agony of all such parents and the young citizens of Meghalaya stranded outside the state,”Shangpliang said.
The MLA said that it is also a known fact that vehicles carrying essential commodities from different parts of the country are entering the state while expressing regret that the children who wish to come back home are being asked to delay their entry into the State till the end of the month.
“Even the Government of India during the height of the pandemic at the epicentre namely Wuhan, Italy and other countries, had evacuated its own citizens to return home,” Shangpliang said.
