SHILLONG: The state government has up-scaled the testing capacity of NEIGRIHMS from 20 to 90 samples per day as another machine has now been put in use. In collaboration with the Government of Assam, sample testing capacity has been further increased by 50. Now, the total testing capacity is 140 samples per day.
The state has taken measures to ensure preparedness for any scenario including preparing for surge capacity to meet any eventuality. Meghalaya has one COVID-19 testing lab in NEIGRIHMS. However, the state is also sending samples to Barpeta and Guwahati for testing.
In East Khasi Hills, there are 323 quarantine beds, 160 isolation beds, 337 Category C beds and 34 ventilators or Category D Beds.
In West Khasi Hills, there are 123 quarantine beds, 35 isolation beds, 10 Category C beds and 4 ventilators.
In South West Khasi Hills, there are 18 quarantine beds, 46 isolation beds and 3 Category C beds, however, there are no ventilators.
In Ri Bhoi, there are 100 quarantine beds, 40 isolation beds, 4 Category C beds and 1 ventilator.
In West Garo Hills, there are 108 quarantine beds, 64 isolation beds, 73 Category C beds and 8 ventilators.
The state has ordered 32 ventilators, 20 have arrived and 12 are to yet to arrive. Besides, 100 BiPAPs (Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure) have arrived in the state.
Meghalaya presently has 52 ventilators across different districts.
With regard to personal protective equipment (PPE), the total number of kits received in the state is 24,084.
