SHILLONG: The Achik Hynniewtrep Awakening Movement (AHAM), Shillong Capital Unit, alleged that “the Muslims are trying to incite communal tension” and stigmatising Garo community in Rajabala and Phulbari.
Asking the state government to promulgate Section 144 CrPC in the areas, the AHAM informed that the Garos have not been allowed to buy essential commodities and threatened.
“We have received information from AHAM, Rajabala and Phulbari units, that the Muslims are not allowing the Garos to purchase essential commodities. Moreover, a complaint also informed that the district administration-approved grocery shops are also being warned against opening their shops, and if they defied, they would be burned down,” the organisation said in a statement issued here on Thursday, adding that the local legislators of the two regions are not paying heed to the situation.
