Curfew curbs extended in EGH, WGH

TURA: Curfew under Section 144 CrPC together with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Disease, COVID-19 regulations, 2020, has been extended in East Garo Hills till 6 am of April 18 while West Garo Hills District Magistrate, in another order, prohibited inter-state and inter-district movement of private vehicles except for medical reasons and with valid car passes.
The order, issued by the West Garo Hills DM, which is already in place from 6 am of Thursday, will remain in force till 6 am of April 20.
In East Garo Hills, the curfew which came into force from 6 am of April 16 will continue with all prohibitions and exemptions which were put in place earlier in the district.
Sale of groceries in retail stores, vegetables, fruits, milk, meat, animal feed and agriculture machinery will be allowed from 8 AM to 12 noon, while the wholesalers will remain opened between 12 and 2 pm.
Face masks compulsory
In both East Garo Hills and West Garo Hills, the district magistrates directed the public to wear masks in all public and work places, ensure social distancing and avoid spitting.
The advisories directed those in charge at public places, work premises
and roads to not allow gathering of 5 or more persons.
Informing that funerals will be regulated by the concerned magistrates on duty, the advisory added that not more than 20 people should be allowed.
Meanwhile, according to the order issued by the West Garo Hills District Magistrate, all educational, training, coaching institutions, etc., should remain closed, but these establishments are expected to maintain the academic schedule through online teaching. All religious places and places of worship shall be closed and all religious congregations are strictly prohibited, the order said.
The closure of all weekly markets, regular markets, commercial and financial establishments in West Garo Hills (Tura Main Market and other highway main market including those along the Meghalaya-Assam border) have also been ordered.
The sale of grocery items including milk and milk products will be allowed from 8 AM to 1 PM; while total curfew has been declared on Saturday and Sunday in the entire district. Any person defying the curfew will be punished as per the law.
