SHILLONG: The BSF on Sunday said that there was a fear of novel coronavirus-infected Bangladeshis crossing over into India.
Speaking on the sidelines of a programme for distribution of essential commodities at border villages in the state, DIG and PRO of Meghalaya Frontier, UK Nayak, said that the situation in Bangladesh was deteriorating and there was a chance of infected people from the country crossing over which may lead to the spread of the virus in the state.
The Shillong Textile Merchant Association assisted the BSF in distribution of the relief.
Nayak informed that in the past few days a few mentally unstable individuals had crossed over and the villagers have been made aware on how to deal with such situations.
On how the BSF is monitoring the situation, Nayak said that the force was in touch with the state administration which is trying to reach out to all the households.
He said the BSF has taken up the responsibility in the border areas and is working hand in gloves with the civil administration.
He informed the BSF is also spreading awareness and is ensuring that proper protocols are followed.
