GUWAHATI: As many as nineteen vultures were found dead and 12 critically ill in a bizarre incident on a paddy field in a village in Dichangmukh area  under Sivasagar Forest Division of Assam on Tuesday.

Forest officials who suspected poisoning as the cause of death, evacuated the critically ill vultures to Chorogua Forest Beat Office. The vultures are now being under treatment of veterinary doctors and an expert from BNHS, an official source informed.

Forest staff buried the carcasses of all 19 vultures in the paddy field after examination by a veterinary doctor who accompanied them to the site. IT is suspected that the vultures fed on a poisoned carcass of a cow calf dumped on the paddy field by some villagers.
