Cyclone damages houses in WKH

NONGSTOIN/JOWAI: A cyclone accompanied by rain, on Monday, left 34 families homeless in 9 villages in West Khasi Hills.
The cyclone damaged the houses, tin sheets, etc.
After an assessment by the staff of the office of Block Development Officer of Nongstoin C&RD Block, it was confirmed that 34 households from 9 villages were affected by the cyclonic storm. CP Mawkon, BDO of Nongstoin C&RD Block, told pressmen here that the villages which were affected included Maweit, Nongpathar, Nongtraw, Umthli, Mawlait, Mawriat, Mawlangriang, Nongdiengsning, Nongkyllang and Tiehsaw. The BDO also informed that after the final assessment is completed the report will be sent to West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner to speed up the process of providing relief to affected families.
Hailstorm in villages
Meanwhile, a hailstorm accompanied by heavy rain and high velocity wind destroyed several houses of Lapangap village in Khanaduli area bordering Karbi Anglong district on Tuesday. “The Presbyterian Church was also damaged, besides almost 90 per cent of the houses in the village have been affected,” informed the headman of the village.
The incident occurred circa 1 pm and lasted till evening. Besides Lapangap, a neighbouring village, Pdeintaloo, was hit by the hailstorm which also destroyed several houses.
