MAWKYRWAT: The Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, on Tuesday, expressed disappointment over discrimination against those coming from outside the states and Shillong, especially the ones who visited Bethany Hospital, into the district.
In an appeal to the public issued recently, Laloo said, “As per information received, it is very disappointing that there are some people and villages in South West Khasi Hills who threaten and have no sympathy or conscience for those from their own villages, who come back from other states and from Shillong, especially the ones who visited Bethany Hospital, Shillong,” the deputy commissioner said.
Asserting that such behaviour is “wrong”, Laloo said that the people might have misunderstood thinking that the disease would spread among the villagers in the district.
While stating that any kind of discrimination is against the Mental Health Act, 2017, the deputy commissioner warned action against those who violate it. Further, Laloo also advised those coming from outside the state or from any affected region to follow the advisories issued by the government and immediately report and register themselves with the Control Room by calling the District Helpline numbers.
The deputy commissioner added that action will be taken against those who violate quarantine.
