NGO distributes relief

SHILLONG: Voluntary Association for Social Upliftment (VASU), a registered NGO from Guwahati, distributed ration to as many as 80 artisans and their families from Kumligaon, Sipragaon, Samatigaon, Sulguri, Betasing, Nirghini, Kharugaon, Ampati and Mahendraganj in South West Garo Hills.
The organisation also informed that one of the donors, Ramendra Sarkar of Saptarshi Industries, passed away due to severe pneumonia and heart attack at Apollo Hospitals in Guwahati.
It may be mentioned that VASU runs a training and production centre in apparel-making in Mahendraganj and handloom-weaving centre in Kumligaon in South West Garo Hills in order to enhance the livelihood opportunities and capacity building for the poor artisans.
