ULFA-I recruitment network busted, 10 arrested

GUWAHATI: Troops of the Indian Army, in a joint operation with Assam police, busted a recruitment network of the banned ULFA(I) and rescued seven minors from six districts of eastern Assam on Wednesday.

Based on a specific intelligence input, the joint team of Army and Assam Police launched a well-coordinated simultaneous operation spread across Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts, a security source informed.

Security forces apprehended four cadres and six over ground workers (OGWs) belonging to the proscribed group. The apprehended persons are actively involved in the ULFA-I recruitment racket.

Ammunition haul: Meanwhile, troops of Assam Rifles recovered large quantity of ammunition near Kunsa village of Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh a couple of days back.

Acting on specific input about presence of a group of NSCN(K-YA) cadres, the troops launched a swift operation in the area and recovered a huge cache of ammunition consisting of 170 rounds of AK 47 along with two magazines.

The recovered items were later handed over to the Khonsa Police Station for further investigations.
