Volunteer group provides relief items to pregnant women, mothers

Shillong: Karuna Trust, a volunteer organisation managing Primary Health Center under PPP Project (NHM) in Meghalaya provided relief items to pregnant women under PHC Myriaw in West Khasi Hills on Thursday.
59 pregnant women registered under the PHC received a relief package which includes 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of dal and 2kg of potato. The activity will be continued till the end of the lockdown period in all 11 PHCs which are managed by the Trust.
The medical officers of PHC Myriaw, Dr Azizul Hoque and Dr Nitumoni Deka expressed their gratitude to West Khasi Hills DC for the permission to conduct the programme. Social distancing was also followed as an important precautionary measure.
It also provided relief items to mothers and the babies who were born
in the Primary Health Centers and Sub-Centers during the lockdown period. The relief items were given to 10 mothers under PHC Maweit, four mothers under PHC Myriaw, one mother under PHC Kynrud, three mothers under PHC Aradonga in West Khasi Hills and five mothers under PHC Saipung in East Jaintia Hills.
The relief package includes rice, pulses, baby food, diapers besides others. The programme is carried out to help mothers who are facing difficulty in purchasing food items during the current crisis.
