SHILLONG: The state government is preparing the modalities for bringing back around 2000 citizens stranded in various parts of Assam due to the ongoing lockdown.
Speaking to newsmen here on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the Transport department is working on the logistics to ferry them back to the state.
“We are also looking to arrange transportation for people who are stranded in other parts of the region”, he said.
According to Tynsong, the government is also trying to shift them to their respective home districts.
Tynsong also said that the government was yet to finalise the protocols for bringing back more than 10,000 people, including students, who are stranded in various parts of the country.
He, however, said the government will not be able to bring back those who are stranded outside unless air and train services resume. He said it was unsure if the lockdown will continue after May 3.
The Assam government made arrangements to bring back nearly 400 students, who were stranded in coaching hub, Kota in Rajasthan.
They returned to Guwahati after a 2000-km bus ride and were sent to 14-day quarantine.
